Eating healthy creates a healthy brain and body
In Eastern medicine, we believe that "our meals can poison us or heal us."
Traditionally, Japanese people used to go to a Buddhist temple to pray, sleep, meditate, exercise, and eat medicinal meals until the symptoms were better when they were not physically or mentally feeling well. Some of these practices are proven effective in maintaining our brain chemistry to restore and maintain a healthy balance in Western medicine.
Today, most Japanese people go to hospitals when they are sick and receive medical treatment as we do in the United States, but when physicians suggest lifestyle changes to patients, I feel the patients take the suggestions much more seriously. Japanese people have a better understanding of how lifestyle is the fundamental problem behind all illnesses. If we neglect a healthy lifestyle and keep receiving medical treatments, we will never get completely well again.
Our brain is sensitive to the things that we eat and how we live. When we eat unhealthy food, our brain gets wrong information from poor nutrients and chemicals, so our brain sends wrong signals to our body. Likewise, if we are not carefully balancing the stress and destress in our lives, our brain and body become sick.
The first and most important thing to remember for healthier living is that if we can stop eating whatever we want and as much as we want, we can start becoming healthier.
